Mint Décor is an Interior Decorating firm focused on residential interiors in Toronto and cottage country. We work primarily with existing homeowners to redecorate and assist in the design of interior renovations. Our clients are families who are looking to decorate their “forever home” in a fashion that is stylish, luxurious, reflective of their personalities, but also practical for the high traffic of family life.


Employment Opportunity - (Part-Time/Contract) Fall 2019 - Ongoing

Position Title: Design Assistant

We are seeking a hardworking, self-motivated and passionate candidate to join the Mint Décor Team. This is not your typical office; Mint Décor is operated out of a home office in North Toronto. We are a close-knit team that likes to share recipes, beauty tips, and completely wow our clients with our creative vision and thoughtfully professional service.

We need someone who is dedicated to helping make Mint Décor the best it can be. A Design Assistant must be highly organized and meticulous, love design, a natural networker, and a problem solver.


  • Assist and support Interior Design Principal with daily tasks both on job sites and in-office

  • Draft detailed floor plans, existing conditions plans, furniture and lighting plans

  • Collaborate with Office Administrator to complete orders and manage day to day tasks in the office

  • Source products and materials as required for specific projects

  • Place orders for products and materials (tiles, wallpapers, furniture, decor etc.), follow up on orders, coordinate large number of deliveries to job sites

  • Prepare correspondence, documentation, and presentation materials with clients and vendors

Training will be provided, and the Design Assistant will be expected to perform these duties successfully during a 3-month probationary period.


Technical Qualifications

  • Design project management software knowledge required, such as Design Docs, Ivy, or similar

  • Floor-planning software experience required, such as; CAD, Chief Architect, SketchUp

  • Must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Excellent working knowledge of Gmail & Gmail best practices

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and systems is an asset

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education/Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in business, administration, interior design, or related field preferred

  • Minimum 2 years prior experience in a similar role

  • Must have comfortable level of skill in working with small business pricing; discounts, taxes, margins, commission percentages, etc.

  • Highly organized multitasker who works well in a fast-paced environment


Other Requirements

  • Must have a reliable vehicle

  • Applicants must have a laptop, cell phone and a drivers’ licence


Time Commitment & Location

Schedule: 30hrs/week

The Design Assistant will carry out the above responsibilities in the office of Mint Décor, at various client sites, wholesale and retail vendors within the GTA, as well as from home or a location of their choice.

The Mint Décor office is currently located in a home office at 117 Dawlish Ave (Lawrence and Mount Pleasant). The office includes access to a dedicated bathroom, fridge and microwave for the team.

The schedule during the initial 3-month probationary period will include 4 days/week in the office, typically not on Fridays.



Starting wage: $20/hr. Paid as a contractor.

Mileage billed at 50 cents/km



Mint Décor is a growing firm, planning to expand into a commercial office over the next 2 years. With this growth comes many opportunities for the Design Assistant. With success in this role, duties will expand and there is potential to increase the hourly rate, and as well as weekly hours.

About Michaela Burns

Mint Décor was started in 2014 by Michaela Burns. Michaela is a mom of 2 young boys and lives in North Toronto with her husband and children. After an early career as a HR Consultant, Michaela made the switch into Interior Design in 2012. She began with attending courses at George Brown College, and was quickly hired by Modern Staging as a stager and designer. After the birth of her second son in 2015 she focused solely on building her own company, Mint Décor, and began working with her own clients directly.
